Signifyd, a leader in fraud prevention, faced significant revenue losses due to customer integration issues with their API-based solution, which connects to online checkout experiences. This challenge highlighted the need to revamp their developer experience. The revamp aimed to provide a self-serve integration tool and a refresh to existing developer documentation, streamlining integration and improving overall customer satisfaction and experience.

Signifyd's Growth Story

In the ever-evolving landscape of fraud protection, Signifyd stood as a beacon of security and reliability. However, the journey wasn't without its hurdles. In 2019, as Signifyd's reputation soared, so did the complexity of its integration processes. Manual onboarding with a developer resources microsite, though once effective, began to strain under the weight of the company's rapid expansion, which called a need for a goal:

To develop a self-service solution for integrations to free up internal support resources and speed up customer launches.

Unveiling Integration Challenges

To tackle the mounting integration challenges, we delved deep into the heart of Signifyd's operations. Through stakeholder interviews and firsthand observations of developers in action, we uncovered a common thread: complexity was hindering progress. Developers, though adept at navigating multi-surface experiences, longed for a streamlined solution that matched their pace.

The crux of the matter was clear: Signifyd needed an integration process as agile as its developers. Thus, our mission was born—to develop a self-service solution that would free Implementation Managers from the burden of manual integration. The existing Developer Center, providing integration resources, would be enhanced with the newly planned Developer Tools to support customers throughout the integration process.

A Collaborative Design Journey

In our pursuit of seamless integration, collaboration became our compass. I worked with people individually to understand each step of the integration phases and then reviewed the synthesized findings with the larger team to go through an approval process. Together, we charted the user journey with precision, crafting a service blueprint that illuminated every step. Embracing the need for speed, we opted for high-fidelity prototypes because I was working on a tandem effort to develop the company's first design system; thus, components would be approved for broad usage before I used them in my concepts, propelling us toward our goals with unparalleled efficiency.

Introducing two transformative solutions: Developer Tools and Developer Center. Developer Tools streamlines integration through a self-serve web-based platform, while Developer Center provides step-by-step resources for integration. Together, they empower developers, streamline processes, and boost customer satisfaction, marking a pivotal step in Signifyd's journey to success.

Store Management

Effortlessly integrate and manage multiple online stores from a single dashboard with our Store Management feature. Start by entering essential details about your integration framework and payment gateway through a simple form, setting the stage for a seamless checkout experience. Upon submission, a dedicated card is created for each store, serving as a command center with an associated API key for smooth operation.

Manage multiple stores simultaneously, each with its unique card, ensuring organized and efficient oversight. Integration progress statuses keep you informed, and easy access to resources ensures you have all necessary tools at hand. With Store Management, creating an interconnected e-commerce empire has never been more intuitive.

Validation

After completing the integration process, users can utilize the Verify Data Quality page to test a sample of orders from their store and ensure the success of the API linking process.

If any issues arise during integration, they are displayed in a data table with detailed troubleshooting information. Issues are categorized by severity, providing users with clear guidance on how to address each problem effectively.

JSON Viewer

Users can access a JSON Viewer for each test set to cross-compare their sent data with the original raw data. This tool, designed to resemble a typical text editor, provides several features to aid in troubleshooting:

  • Issue Sidebar: A sidebar categorizes all issues by severity and includes anchors for easy navigation within the page.

  • Linting and Tooltips: The JSON Viewer highlights issues and offers tooltips with detailed information for each problem.

  • Toggle Tabs: Users can switch between views of raw and sent data, facilitating easy cross-comparison.

  • Copy Functionality: Users can copy the full JSON to transfer it to their preferred text editor if needed.

These features collectively streamline the troubleshooting process, making it more efficient and user-friendly.

With Developer Tools and Developer Center at their disposal, developers stepped into a realm of newfound autonomy. Post-launch, we didn't rest on our laurels. Armed with feedback, we fine-tuned our offerings to perfection. From clearer content to intuitive glossaries, every enhancement was a testament to our commitment to user-centric design.
